The girl that has all the skills

I recently spoke with a woman interested in enrolling in on of our programs. Before saying yes, she wanted to make sure that it would give her the skills to address her biggest issue at work: when she speaks it falls on deaf ears. Sometimes she gets a nod, but often there is silence. Then only moments later a man has the same comment, suggestion, or idea and viola - BRILLIANCE. This cycle leaves her continually wondering “how do I need to speak in a  way that others will hear?”

Raise your hand if you can relate.

I was straight with her. And I am going to be straight with you. We do not give you those skills.

And here is why.

The woman reading this article (you) is not lacking skills.

You have read countless articles, sought advice from many, and even attended a class or two. You have invested in all the things you’ve been told to improve in service of what you are wanting.

You have learned, you have practiced, you have adapted. Maybe some days it feels like you have moved forward an inch, but what you really want to feel is a mile of progress. You want to finally have that person or that room hear you when you speak and value what you have to contribute.

Kudos on the effort (we see you). That relentless feeling of burnout inside of you is well earned. The cost of adjusting yourself to the mold mandated by a system that does not represent you has worn you down. Do you even recognize yourself anymore?

The ways you have molded yourself to act like the men at the top are not matched with the rewards you have wanted. Your level of self-sacrifice is too high.

Trust me, I have been there.

So what do you do?

Learn to stand in full self authority.

This isn't something we can teach you how to do by throwing new skills into your already overflowing tool-kit. Trusting yourself and your own voice is something you discover. We will help you unlock it. And when you do, your voice will grow bigger than that little meeting room can possibly contain.

When women unhook from the idea that they need something MORE, NEW, SHINY to be valuable, their real brilliance emerges.

Shine On,
Alicia
